It works well when it works - which often it does not. App is a connectivity nightmare with Pixel 9 Pro. Initially it will connect (usually) but then lose connectivity. It does the same when connected via USB. You can tell when it's not going to work as the vehicle indicator in maps flickers. It will disconnect after a couple of minutes and then reconnect. This gets repeated a few times until it refuses to connect at all until the car and phone are restarted.

I am so frustrated with android auto... I've been using it for almost a year, and I haven't gone more than a day or two without some kind of issue. Most of the major issues have been resolved, but I still have one of the most annoying ones. My phone screen will frequently go black and not come back on while connected to android auto, so if am alarm rings or something, I can't see it, and I have to guess where the buttons are on the screen to snooze or dismiss it, and hope I hit the right one.

After getting extremely frustrated and wasting several minutes on this, you finally unplug your phone from the USB-C cable, which disconnects Android Auto, and manually type the address into Google Maps. And you end up doing all this while driving...
