Caltopo costs far less than Gaia, Farout, etc, but it has diverse data from many geo databases, and maps made by other users with campsites, bear boxes, etc. I combine different layers. E.G. scanned USGS topos with the most detailed geographic place names, and the map builder overlay at about 60% strength, for trail mileage, etc. getting elevation profiles, sunrise info, slope data, , cell phone coverage, etc is very easy. The mobile app is a total Fail if you are trying to navigate in an offline environment like... deep in the wilderness or even state or national parks where internet is not available. It simply doesn't work and I have had much conversation with support on this to be sure it wasn't me. I have the Desktop subscription and mainly bought this to build maps for print and for that, this app is the absolute best. So, the rating is for the mobile app only.

Most powerful digital mapping tool for outdoor recreation. Can do what many other apps/software do all in one app. Mostly I use it on my computer, but then seamlessly move to the app when in the field. It all syncs at the end of the day.
